We also stopped in at Maiko Sushi Lounge on 6th Street:
They had a great happy hour menu (apparently, any time after 5 p.m. is happy hour - a fact which made these sushi-lovers happy). So we split a seaweed salad:
And I convinced Kelly that we could live on just three rolls.
But we still wanted something sweet, so we hiked to the far end of 6th Street to grab sopapillas.
They were merely ok. What a disappointment.
Another evening we tried Amy's Ice Cream, an Austin-based specialty ice cream shop.
Our conversation went something like this:
Shannah - Kelly, are you interested in trying Amy's Ice Cream?
Kelly - Well, what does the sign say? .
So yes, he did want to try it and yes, we waited over 30 minutes at 11 pm to get ice cream.
Because that's what you do when you're in Austin and you're on vacation - even if it's just for a weekend.
The servers (what is the ice cream parlor equivalent of a barista?) mix in a wide variety of flavors, creating amazing concoctions.
For readers based in the US who are thinking, That sounds like Cold Stone Creamery, I ask you this:
Do the ice cream servers at Cold Stone toss the ingredient laden ice cream ball in the air and catch it in a cup behind their backs?
Have you ever had a combination like homemade Mexican Vanilla ice cream with crumbled gingersnaps?
The answer is no. No you have not.
