Being Taken Advantage Of

You know how people tend to sit in the same places in church or a classroom? It's not just a people-habit, animals have their preferred spots as well.

In our house, Kelly tends to sit/lounge on the sofa. I sit on the loveseat. Ben sits on Daddy and Bridget wanders around, feeling out of sorts. When it's family time, I join Kelly on the sofa, Ben sits on both of us and Bridget sits in my seat on the loveseat.

Truth be told, Ben really is Daddy's cat and Bridget really is Momma's cat. She has been ever since we adopted her in England and we spent lots of time together at our home in Eastcote.

And, you may be wondering, what is the point to all of this?

Well, Kelly is gone and things are completely out of order. I'm now sitting/lounging on the sofa and Bridget is...there's no other word for it...Bridget is being shameless and taking advantage of the situation.

She has followed me through the house, telling me what to do (usually something along the lines of "Open that door!" or "Scratch my ear!" or "Go sit down!") and ignoring Ben. That poor boy has spent most of his Daddy-gone days sulking.

Literally sulking. If I had a working camera, I could take a photo right now to show you how he sits with his back to me, ears tilted back and eyes screwed shut. He's pitiful.

In the meantime, Bridget is lazing on my lap, hiding her nose, belly half-showing. It's a revolting display.

I feel so used.
