Before & After: Inside

And just a few shots of the interior, which is still very much a work-in-progress. We've not even hung our decorative pieces or curtains yet. That's always the hardest part of moving in for me - deciding where art best belongs and what color/type of curtain should be in a window. Thankfully, Kelly has a wonderful eye for design so decorating is a partnership activity.

For the entire interior, we scraped all of the ceilings to remove the popcorn texture, repaired and retextured the walls, and repainted everything (walls, ceilings and trim).

Entryway features a warm neutral plaster beige color. We installed privacy film on the door's window and changed the lock hardware.

Still on the to-do-list - replace the front door and remove the chipped floor tile, replacing it with wood that will extend into the currently-carpeted sitting room and dining room.

Master bedroom, repainted a lovely chocolate brown.

Wet bar (view from sitting room into kitchen/family room). We removed the plantation shutters to open up the space.

The kitchen/family room featured a hideous brick red color that didn't work with the skip trowel wall finish. The other complication was the mixture of warm and cool colors between the floor tile, kitchen backsplash, cast stone fireplace and cabinets. We ended up with a warm neutral plaster beige color (used as the unifying color throughout the house) and a warm chocolate brown that defines the kitchen space.

We'll eventually replace the countertops with a modern surface, change all of the major appliances to stainless and install a vent hood over the island cooktop.

Stairway to the second level. We obviously changed the hot colors out for a neutral. We also washed and moisturized (several times) the banister - probably for one of the first times since the home was built in 1987.

Another long-term goal is to change the banister. We're thinking we might go with wood and wrought iron.

Upstairs main hallway.

Guest bathroom - repainted. Now, unfortunately, we have to replace hardware that's fallen off the walls. (What a pain!)

We'll also frame out the mirror and install another cabinet over the toilet area to give the room a more finished appearance.

The gameroom - formerly a nursery. We did an extensive amount of wall cleaning and hardware removal before painting. Our pool table will live in this room, along with a flat screen/gaming center in the left side of the closet space. (We'll reinstall a door of some sort to protect the tv from errant pool shots!)

Another view of the gameroom. We're currently using it as a catch-all for decorative elements and items awaiting new furniture/storage solution purchase.
