Help, Please!

This post really should be titled: I’m Gonna Have to Kill a Kitty.

We say that, you see, way too often in our house. Other favorite phrases are:

  • No!
  • Stop that!
  • Ssst!
  • Quit!
  • Be nice!
  • Do you want to die?
What any cat owner can tell you is that the most frustrating aspect to providing a home for cats is instilling discipline.

Or, as Kelly often notes:

You can teach a cat what not to do while you’re in the room. After you’re gone, all bets are off.

Truer words have never been said. We’re working on some near-impossible discipline issues these days.

1. Counters aren’t for kitties. Meme pushes Bridget off the counter every time she comes to visit. Fat lot of good that does.

2. There are places kitties shouldn’t go. We don’t want to find kitties in bizarre locations (even though I confess it makes me laugh!).

3. Fur-free living. I’m getting a little tired of changing the tablecloth every time we eat.

4. Play nice. Umm…this may be a hopeless cause.

5. Now the newest battle is focused on our staircase – specifically, it is a Staircase, not a Scratching Pad. (I’d love to catch a photo of this, but the culprit always runs away when I head that direction.)

Any ideas? Otherwise, we might have to kill a kitty:

  1. Cats are too independent for me. Have you tried a Scat Pad?

  2. Not yet. Our current strategy is clear packing tape on the stairs to make it an unpleasant place to scratch.

Obviously, however, I'm going to have to cover each stair tread because he keeps moving up a stair when I tape one up. Naughty!
