I Can't Help It If You Can't Read My Mind

Have you ever read any of the If You books? They crack me up because they so perfectly describe my life. Wandering here and there, doing one task after another before you find yourself light years from where you originally intended.

I really think there ought to be a book in this series written for grown-ups. Maybe we can title it If You Rode the Mental Train Tracks.

Honestly, this is my biggest problem around the Hayley House. No one seems to be able to follow my mental wanderings. Now that I think about it, this may be my biggest problem around the office as well.

I know what I mean to say. I know how my thoughts and comments relate to the bigger picture.

But, sometimes, what I'm thinking about gets in the way of what I mean to say. For example, while driving home from work:
Me: Do you mind if we stop at Sprouts for (lettuce)? {Mental Sprouts shopping list: lettuce, cilantro and fruit for dessert.}

Him: Do we have to?

Me: Well, I thought it would be nice to have a Caesar salad with our pasta tonight. If you don't want a salad, we don't have to stop.

Him: I'd like a salad.
We stop. We shop. As we head out of the store with my purchases:
Him: This looks like a lot more than cilantro.

Me: I told you I needed lettuce for a salad.

Him: You said you needed to buy cilantro.

Me: Why on earth would you think I planned to make a Caesar salad out of cilantro?

Him: Well, I thought you might be making it a bit more interesting.

Him: How can you expect anyone to know what you're saying when you don't know yourself?
