Midway through cooking, the oven started beeping. Loudly and frequently. And this was strange, because we hadn't set the timer.
We all glanced over and saw a bright red FI on the control panel, along with a bit of smoke drifting out around the door.
Ummm...do you think it's on fire? wondered The Niece. This may be doubly not good.
You're right, I said. I'm going to get the manual to find out.
I ran upstairs and dug through our manual file. Good news! It turns out that FI doesn't stand for FIRE, it stand for "Error Code F-1."
I figured as much, said The Boy. You'd think they'd find a way to let you know that there was a fire without resorting to displaying FI. Like, perhaps, flames.
And I'd sure hate to have to explain to the fire department that the reason our house burned down was because you couldn't find the manual in time to know that FI meant the oven was on fire.
