Playing Around

What to do, what to do, with leftover bits and bobs from holiday cooking?

Experiment!!

After my cookie exchange party the other weekend, I found myself with 20 won ton wrappers, some pureed pumpkin, a splash of evaporated milk and a dab of melted ultra-dark chocolate.

I remembered eating some amazing hazelnut dessert won tons at a holiday party several years ago and thought that it might be fun to see if I could make some of my own. Here's what I did!

Pumpkin Pie Won Tons
  • 1/2 c. pureed pumpkin
  • Evaporated milk
  • Cinnamon to taste
  • Ground cloves to taste
  • Nutmeg to taste
  • Granulated sugar to taste
  • Won ton wrappers
  • Powdered sugar
  • Melted chocolate
Mix pumpkin, granulated sugar and spices to desired taste. Add enough evaporated milk to make the pumpkin mixture creamy and moist, but not runny.

Lay won ton wrappers on a clean surface. Spoon 1.5-2 tablespoons of pumpkin in center of wrapper. Brush edges with egg whites or water. Fold won ton wrapper in half and press to seal.

Place on baking sheet and bake in 350F oven for 12-15 minutes or until won ton is golden brown. Remove from pan to wire rack to cool. Dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with melted chocolate.

Verdict? YUM!!!

What fun food experiments have you tried?
