I kept us regularly stocked while we lived in the UK and expected to do the same when we relocated to the States. After all, Kellogg's is an American company.
Except...Crunchy Nut isn't available in the US. What a bummer!
Fortunately we have a very good Brit expat friend who picks up one or two boxes for The Boy every time she travels to visit family. A lifesaver, she is.
You can imagine my surprise when I opened an email from our Good Friends to see this:
Seriously? Crunchy Nut spotted in the US?!? Off we headed to the store to pick up a box.
So how did it compare? Straight off we could tell it wasn't quite the same cereal. The flakes glistened...and you know what that means: Sugar coating.
And after the taste test?
- British Crunchy Nut: Slightly sweet with a strong nutty flavor
- American Crunchy Nut: Extremely sweet with a slightly nutty flavor.
{Why should there be an assumption that Americans prefer overly-sugared food products?}
I noticed that it was a bit on the sweet side. Sorry it isn't quite the same.
ReplyDeleteWho knows? They may adjust the recipe. We'd have never known if he didn't try it. It's not awful, it just not quite the same. And we wouldn't have known it was available if you hadn't emailed!
