Fort Worth Food Find

While we were in Fort Worth the other weekend, we stopped for a late lunch at a restaurant I'd been wanting to try for some time, the Lonesome Dove Bistro.

Tucked away in the historic Stockyards, Lonesome Dove is Chef Tim Love's flagship restaurant. Don't know Chef Tim Love? If you watch the Food Network, you might recognize him as winner of Iron Chef America 2007.

We loved how intimate the restaurant was - small, cozy and very classy Western:

The service was slow, but extremely attentive. To be very fair to Lonesome Dove's speed of service, we were eating at 2 pm, well after the normal lunch rush when staffing levels were low. And who says you have to be in a rush to eat, anyway?!?

The food was ah.maz.ing. So amazing that I don't really have photos - we were too focused on eating! For starters, we had rabbit-rattlesnake sausage on spicy manchego rosti with crème fraiche, and seared kangaroo nachos, avocado salsa, huckleberry sauce:

Our group of four shared three entrees: Lonesome Dove house meatloaf with yukon gold mash and sautéed spinach {so good!}, crispy blue corn catfish with avocado salsa and cilantro orange butter {delicious!}, and pan seared Texas quail with fried Pepita bread and spicy pan gravy {delightfully different}.

Dessert was warm ancho chile chocolate cake with roasted pepita ice cream {almost didn't share the ice cream}, Mexican doughnuts with cajeta, chocolate and raspberry sauces {cajeta=heaven}:

And we also savored butterscotch budino with salted caramel {I did a poor job of sharing this one for sure - see the death grip I have on the glass?}:

Amazing, amazing meal - and definitely a restaurant for a return visit!!
