Our Mission: To Bike the Mission Trail

In addition to eating, our other plan for our weekend get-away trip to San Antonio involved renting bicycles and riding the full Mission Trail.

San Antonio has five historic missions dating from the 18th century. Most Americans know about the Alamo Mission (Remember the Alamo!), but are less informed about the other four surviving missions.

Bike riding = lots of fun + a great way to get exercise and see the sites.

Mission Conception: A large, beautiful mission that still looks much like it originally did.

Mission San Jose: Known as the "Queen of Missions" for its elegant and detailed design. This was my favorite of the missions we visited.

Mission Espada Aqueducts: We didn't have time to bike all the way out to Mission Espada, but we were able to see the well-preserved remnants of the aqueduct system. This irrigation system allowed water to be brought from the San Antonio River to the fields.

Mission San Juan: Though under extensive construction, the chapel is still in use today.

Gorgeous, huh?
