A Living Example

The security guard in my office building lobby never smiles. At least, I've never seen him smile.

I'm determined to change that.

You should feel sorry for him.

Every morning, I greet him with a huge smile and a chipper Good morning! only to have my efforts returned with a monotone Morning and a near-scowl.

Every afternoon, I give him another huge smile and a chipper Have a great evening! to which he replies with a monotone Bye and yet another near-scowl.

This only makes me more determined. I will win him over.

I was sharing this tidbit of my daily routine with The Boy and some friends at dinner earlier this week. When I wrapped up my tale of determined cheerfulness, The Boy looked at our friends and said:

This is what you get when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object.

  1. Smiles are eventually contagious ....

    1. Sometime we don't know the burden of sorrow others may have.

    2. Nita - that is very true. He may be in a sad place and that can last for some time. I do hope that my cheerfulness will help him if that's the case.

  2. Keep after him. I know you'll win him over!
