Bridget's scratching post has reached the end of its life and it's time to bid it farewell. I just can't seem to bring myself to toss it out, though.
I think I'm having a hard time because of what this thing represents. I bought it in the UK, on eBay UK for her. It was part of a whole host of things I bought in preparation to welcome Bridget into our home.
We were so excited to adopt her. We were helping the Cat Protection Society by homing a kitty. Getting Bridget also meant we were finally in our own home after months of moving from one apartment to another. She was also the kitty we'd been waiting for after a long period of mourning the death of our first married Hayley cat, Jet.
From the time I set eyes on Bridget (then called Ellie) at her foster home, I knew she was my cat. She was rambunctious - even nipped at me when I tried to give her a hello pet. But she and I developed a close relationship. Days at home of filled with disciplining, learning to enjoy brushing and lap-sitting, and taking naps together - she's mama's baby kitty.
And now it's time to throw away her first-ever scratching post.
It's crazy, but it's breaking my heart.
ahh my boss would sympathize. We finally had to throw out a massive cat tower at work that had been there for probably the entire 5 years the hotel has been opened. It stank, we washed it, one section of it completely died.
