I Don't Think That Means What You Think That Means

This weekend, The Boy and heard a news story about a recent study regarding men and fashion terminology. The study found that fashion jargon, by and large, confuses men.

For example, 39% of men surveyed thought a "culotte" was a town in France. Only slightly better than the 32% who thought it was a disease. Or worse: 33% thought "hosiery" referred to a garden tool.

You can read more about the study here.

We laughed and laughed at those poor men who didn't know beans from apple butter about fashion.

Then the work week rolled around.

As is my custom, I called The Boy as I neared his office so he'd know it was time to start packing away for the day. {Ah, the things you do as carpoolers!}

We were chatting about the day, when he mentioned: Hey! You should see X today. She looks great. I mean, she is really stylin'.

Oh really? I said. What is she wearing?

Well, she just knows how to put an outfit together, The Boy replied. She's got on these great lady-pants today...

Lady-pants? I asked. What are lady-pants?

I don't know...I mean...they aren't trousers or anything, he explained. I don't know what you'd call them. They're lady-pants.

 Hmmm...

Maybe The Boy was part of that fashion jargon study and I just didn't know about it.
