If there's anything I can say with certainty, it's that I was not meant to be a stay-at-home person.
By some oddity of holiday scheduling, I ended up with a four-day weekend. Now, a three-day weekend is a blessing. That extra day allows me to catch up on house projects that have been languishing, run errands and get some much-needed rest.
But a four-day weekend? Hmmm....
5 a.m.: The Boy gets up for work. My plan is to get out of bed and go for a long (18 mile) run. Except I had a difficult time sleeping {anticipation of yet another day off?} and am too exhausted to go for a run.
First failure of my last day off until late spring and the coffee hasn't even brewed yet.
6:30 a.m.: The Boy kisses me goodbye and heads off to work. I continue sitting on the couch, sipping coffee and fire up a movie from the AFI 10 Top 10 list.
8:45 a.m.: Movie over, I decide to brew another small pot of coffee and invite Ben to sit on my lap while I watched Rachael Ray...and Nate Berkus.
10:30 a.m.: Time to take a bath. I grab a great book {one of seven on my nightstand} and set the jacuzzi timer for 30 minutes so I won't linger too long.
11:30 a.m.: Yeah, I need to out of the tub.
12:00 p.m.: Lunch time!
12:30 p.m.: I decide to hassle Bridget for a little bit before heading to the grocery store. Bad idea. She's lazy and loves to snuggle. So do I.
1:00 p.m.: While snuggling, I flip on a new-to-me reality show, Tabatha's Salon Takeover.
2:00 p.m.: This show is addictive. Must.Turn.It.Off.
2:15 p.m.: Off to the grocery store. Hoping I can get all of the shopping done before The Boy gets home at 4:30 and asks me what I've done all day.
4:35 p.m.: Does it count if I pull into the garage 30 seconds before he does?
5:50 p.m.: Dinner on the table. I inform The Boy that it's not take-out. He tells me the green stuff (arugula salad) goes a long way to making him feel better.
6:10 p.m.: Off to Week 1 of a core and ab training class at church. {Yes, at church.}
7:45 p.m.: Back home, change into jammies and ease onto the couch to spend the rest of the evening with The Boy.
Is my holiday really over? I didn't get anything accomplished...
It's nice to have some days like that--especially considering how full and hectic your life usually is.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to note that I rarely think about how busy our lives are until I have a day without any urgent tasks!
ReplyDeleteAnd all without a twinge of guilt!
ReplyDeleteThe guilt comes later when I face The Stack of Things Still To Do.
ReplyDeleteI stopped in the office yesterday and found the Hob Nobs from you and K on my desk - you are amazingly thoughtful, I don't know how you keep track of the gifts you give out! Isaac polished off a third of the can quickly, and I've hidden the rest. :) Gotta love someone that knows which English treats are best. :)
