In fact, if I had to be honest, I only exercise so that I can eat more. Looking at myself in the mirror is revealing a not-so-nice truth: I'm not exercising enough.
That's part of the reason that I created a 101 list goal to achieve a healthy BMI. I'm not super-out of line, but there's - shall we say - room for improvement.
I've been going to see a nutritionist. She's helped me develop a plan (not a diet) and establish some healthy routines and thought processes. It's going to be a long haul, I'm sure, but I'm dedicated and she's 100% covered by my insurance plan.
You might say that I have no excuse.
What I've found is that I'm having a similar experience to life in Kenya. There, when the water was cut off (for whatever reason), I felt unbearably thirsty.
Now, even though I have a very plentiful level of calories allotted per day, I am starving!! I guess it's because I know I can't eat everything without - literally - counting the cost.
One of the bigger challenges is the number of business lunches, happy hours, small group meetings and (umm) birthday celebrations that I go to. It's easy to know what you're eating at home and to control how much food is on your plate. Away from home? Not quite as easy. Plus I haven't quite gotten the hang of knowing how much is an actual "serving."
So in addition to preplanning (to a certain extent) what I will and won't eat, and adjusting what I eat and when to allow for being out, I've found the neatest graphic reminder to help me judge portion sizes:

Because taking measuring cups and spoons would just be weird. And though I'm most definitely weird, I have to draw the line somewhere.
