Change Touches Everything

The strange thing about grief, I told a friend during a pre-funeral visitation the other week, is that it's like growing a third head. Everyone, including yourself, can see it - you're changed fundamentally.

My friend agreed and added, And that third head never really goes away.

How true.

We are all people going through some phase of change - we're about to encounter unplanned change, we're enduring unplanned change or we're adjusting to life after unplanned change.

So underneath our daily veneer, any one of us is likely processing change. It affects our work, our relationships, our sleep patterns, our emotions...everything.

And I think this is what frustrates me the most - the inability to escape what I'm going through. I'd like to pretend that compartmentalization is possible. Work here. Life there. Relationships here. Faith there.

It's just not that way. Everything is connected, no matter how much I pretend to keep it separate.

So it is with change.
