Weekend Project Update

This weekend's main task was to finish my nativity display cabinet. It's been a work in progress since the middle of April. Definitely past time to finish it up!

A reminder of what Carter delivered to our house on April 17th:

I'd asked for your input in color selection. By an overwhelming margin, the vote was for traditional color combinations. So I opted for Glidden paint in an eggshell finish - Bittersweet Chocolate for the exterior and Haystack.

Here's the finished display cabinet:

Isn't she gorgeous? The light yellow really makes the recessed shelves pop out - important since there aren't lights in the unit (too much of a hassle for something I'd not really use) and the unit lives on our upstairs landing where lighting can be a challenge:

I really love the contrast of the rich, dark brown with the light and creamy yellow. I've noticed that the appearance of the interior color varies significantly throughout the day as the light quality changes.

You'll notice I painted the face of each shelving section brown. I think the contrast really helps define each display space and adds to the overall character of the piece.

What do you think? Worth the wait??

(More on my nativity collection - and why I'm not the typical "collector" - to come next month!)

  3. Wow, it looks really good. In the photos it looks like you have interior lighting. I like the dark color on the facing, too.

  4. Just catching up with my reading tonight. I LOVE THIS! So happy you chose the classic colors.

I cannot wait to see it in person, because I suspect the pictures don't do it justice. Besides that, I covet thy nativities! :)
